Overview
Tensar® TriAx® geogridwas the first product to be manufactured specifically for thestabilisationof aggregates. Tensar's triaxial geogrids are designedtooptimiseinterlock and confinement,bothessential forthe control of particle movement,resultingin astronger, stifferaggregate layerwith increased loadspreadingcapacity and deformationresistance.
With applications in road foundations, pavement layers, rail trackbed and other trafficked areas, incorporating a triaxial geogrid can result in aggregate savings of up to 50%, with the associated benefits of reducing cost, transportation, construction time and emissions.

Tensar Triaxial geogrids are available in grades: TX150, TX160, TX170, and TX190L. TX5 and TX7 grades arealso available as a component in full-depth pavement designs.

Tensar triaxial geogrids have been designed specifically for the stabilisation of aggregates in roads, railways and trafficked areas. It has beenthe subject of extensive research,full-scale testingandfield trials.Fromthe massofdataobtained, design parameters have been developed specific to TriAxand these are incorporated into Tensar’s design software.
Hexagonal Structure withTriangularApertures.
Thegeometryof a Tensar triaxialgeogrid provides a near-uniform(360°)in-planestiffness. Thishas been shown to efficientlydistributethetraffic loadwhich acts radially on the stabilised layer.Loads areabsorbed with very low strainin the geogrid, which resultsinreduced layer deformation.
Optimised for Interlock and Confinement
Soil stabilisationis achieved by confinement of the aggregate particles.Effectiveconfinement requires a high degree ofinterlockbetween aggregate and geogridandstrongjunctions in the geogrid, as well ashigh in-plane stiffness.Tensar triaxialgeogrids have been designed to optimise particle confinement,with a combination of3Drib profile,high junction strength and stiff in-plane geometry.
Reduced Subgrade Stress
Theenhancedstiffness and strength of amechanically stabilised layer incorporating Tensar TriAx geogridincreases load distribution, improving bearing capacity and reducing the stressacting on thesubgrade. This in turn reduces subgrade deformation and rutting.
Increased Pavement Life
Pavement life is directly influenced byanydeformation of thepavement structure. The particle confinementprovided by Tensar TriAxgreatly reduces permanent deformation, while the enhancedstiffness of the mechanically stabilised layerinfluences elastic deformations due to traffic.The result is an increase in pavement life – or alternatively, a possiblereduction in pavement thickness for a given design life.
