Review NieR:Automata The End of YoRHa Edition (Switch) - A Modern Classic Shines On Switch

    NieR-ly perfect

NieR:Automata is perhaps a story of the power of word of mouth. A sequel in an IP with a devoted but modest following by Square Enix standards, it became a notable sales success over time as initial fans convinced neutrals that something special had arrived. Director Yoko Taro was also clever in his approach to storytelling - playing...

The user score is surprisingly low. I expected it to be a 9. Personally for a Switch port and excellent game with a wonderful world to get lost in I give it a 10. If the other version did not exist and I just judge the performance and game itself then it is a 10. I am LOVING it on Switch.

@spikeponcho I agree that it has been under rated by NL. Originally I bought this on PS4 but the frame rate and resolution caused eye bleed (eye strain) and I could not play in for any length of time. On Switch played it docked/undocked and finished the main storylines almost non stop. Graphically it’s not to far adrift from the PS4 and the switch does not seem to suffer from the frame rate dips the PS4 had.

Edit: Might not be an issue from the game. Original comment below.

I'm very sad to experience a game-breaking bug. Right after defeating a major boss (2B @ lvl 29), the screen goes black and won't load whatever is coming next. I'm completely frustrated, reload and defeated him again, but the game will just go black and that's it. So I basically paid full price for a lengthy demo.

Graphically, the washed out dynamics, low resolution and frame rate dips are annoying, but even more so the extremely compressed and flat audio. From an audio-visual perspective, this game is not fun on a good home system.

Gameplay wise, I would have loved to explore the world and side quests some more, and I was told the story gets really interesting later on. But, alas, the game is unplayable for me due to the bug.

So it's a hard pass from me! Not recommended!

@EliJapan Unfortunately, no. But I noticed I have other games crashing now as well. I think my Switch is getting old… So I think this might not necessarily be due to Nier Automata.
