Bravo I vs Bravo I XR
If Im getting a whole new transome assembly and drive thats paired to a 496HO whats better the OEM Bravo I or the XR? Ive heard the XR is stronger, but prone to needing work more often vs the Bravo I. Id love to hear some feed back from owners of the XR to see if this is true.

Missing drive
Im part of the All American Drive Service fiasco. They used to be top notch until George closed up shop while stealing everyones money and drives. Luckily State Farm came through with my theft claim and paid out the replacement. The marine mechanic in FL told me that the XR is built stronger, but that it requires more maintenance. Im just going off what he said so Im reaching out to the boating community to see if XR owners agree. I want the XR, but if its more headache than its worth then Ill just stick with the OEM Bravo I.

I’m not sure why it would be “more maintenance”. They are the stronger drive built to handle more horsepower. Like all drives, change the oil every year or every 25 hours and be responsible getting up on plane. I have XR’s behind my Tiger…..

He just said that theyre built for racing and require being rebuilt more often. I always thought they were stronger, so his statement seemed counter intuitive. Thats why I reached out to actual owners and users. Plus I figure that if I decide to sell the boat most would see the XR as a plus and make the boat worth more. Its a 2004 25 Outlaw in great shape. Well minus the stolen outdrive right now. Lol

The 496HO is a solid engine with minimal issues so Id hate to mess with it, and then spend more time in the shop than on the water. I just want to make sure I get the right outdrive for now since I have a blank canvas. The gimbal and transom assembly are being replaced so from the engine back will all be new. I appreciate the input from the boating community.
